Wilhelmina of the Netherlands

Wilhelmina was the Queen of the Netherlands, a country in Europe. The Netherlands is known for its flat land, windmills, and beautiful flowers. It's a bit smaller than the state of Maine in the USA.

The weather there is usually mild, not too hot and not too cold. Many parts of the Netherlands are very close to the sea, and some land is even lower than the sea! It's a special place with lots of water and green fields.

Wilhelmina became queen when she was only 10 years old! Her dad, King William III, passed away. She was the only child, so she got the crown. For a few years, her mom helped her rule until she was older. She ruled for a super long time, almost 58 years! That's longer than most kids are even alive! She saw many big changes in the world during her time as queen.

During a big war called World War I, Wilhelmina helped keep the Netherlands safe and neutral, meaning they didn't fight. She also helped solve problems with factories and jobs in her country. She was so good at business that she became the first woman in the whole world to be a billionaire! That's a lot of money, enough to buy thousands and thousands of toys!

When another big war, World War II, started, the Netherlands was invaded. Wilhelmina had to leave her home and go to Britain. But she didn't give up! She led her government from afar and spoke to her people on the radio, giving them hope. She became a symbol of bravery for everyone. After the war, she came back and eventually gave her crown to her daughter.
