Whaling: Big Boats and Big Creatures!

Whaling is when people hunt whales, which are super-duper big sea animals. For a very long time, people used special boats, sometimes with pointy sticks called harpoons, to catch them. They hunted whales for their meat, which they could eat, and for their blubber, a fatty layer that could be used to make oil for lamps. It was a dangerous job for the whalers!

People hunted whales for many reasons. The meat was food, like a giant fish steak! The oil from their blubber was used for light in lamps, like a natural flashlight. Whale bones could be used to make things like umbrellas or even corsets for fancy dresses. So, whales helped people in many ways a long, long time ago.

Today, most countries agree that hunting whales is not a good idea. Whales are amazing creatures, and many of them are in danger. Scientists are working hard to protect them. We don't hunt whales like we used to. Instead, people love to watch whales swim in the ocean on boat tours, which is much safer and more fun for everyone!

They are smart and social animals, living in families and communicating with each other. It's important to keep them safe in their ocean homes.
