Western New Guinea: Land of Amazing Adventures!

Western New Guinea is like the left half of a super-sized island called New Guinea. It's so big, it's part of the Australian continent! Most of it is covered in thick, green rainforests, like a giant jungle playground.

It's mostly in the Southern Hemisphere, which is like being upside down compared to where most people live. It also has cool islands nearby, like Biak and Raja Ampat, which are like little jewels in the ocean.

People have lived in Western New Guinea for thousands and thousands of years! Imagine your great-great-great-great-grandparents, and then go back even further! Long ago, brave sailors came from far away to trade for yummy spices.

The Dutch, who were like explorers from Europe, eventually took charge of this part of the island. They stayed for a very, very long time, even after other parts of the world became their own countries.

Many people in Western New Guinea live in the rainforests, just like in a nature documentary! Some groups, like the Dani people, live in a beautiful place called the Baliem Valley. Lots of people also live near the coast, where they can see the ocean. The biggest city there is called Jayapura, which is a busy place with lots of houses and shops. It's like the heart of Western New Guinea!

People in Western New Guinea work in many ways. Some are farmers, growing food in the rich soil. Others are fishermen, catching yummy fish from the ocean.

There are also jobs related to oil and mining, which means digging up important things from the ground. They are also building a super long road called the Trans-Papua Highway to help people travel and trade more easily. It's all about making life better!
