Key Facts
Meet Vicente, the Brave Explorer!
Vicente Yáñez Pinzón was a super brave Spanish explorer who lived a long, long time ago, around the year 1462. He was the youngest of the Pinzón brothers, and they were all famous sailors. Vicente was like a captain on one of Christopher Columbus's ships, called the Niña. This ship was small, not like the giant cruise ships today! He helped sail it across a huge ocean to discover new places.
Sailing with Columbus!
Vicente was on one of the most exciting adventures ever! He sailed with Christopher Columbus in 1492. His brother, Martín Alonso Pinzón, was captain of another ship called the Pinta. Vicente was the captain of the Niña. They sailed for many, many weeks across the big, blue sea. It was a very long trip, and they didn't have GPS or maps like we do now!
Discovering New Worlds!
When Vicente and Columbus arrived, they found lands that were new to them. This was the start of exploring what we now call the Americas. Vicente was one of the very first Europeans to see these amazing places. He helped show the world that there were lands across the ocean. This was a HUGE deal back then!
A Famous Sailor's Life
Vicente Yáñez Pinzón was born in a town called Palos de la Frontera in Spain. He loved the sea and became a skilled sailor. He was known for his bravery and his ability to navigate. After his big trip with Columbus, he continued to explore and made other important journeys. He lived a life full of adventure on the waves.
