Vaishali: A City of Ancient Wonders!

Vaishali is like a treasure chest buried in the ground, north of a big city called Patna in India. It's in a place called Bihar. Think of it as a special historical park where you can see ancient ruins. It's a place that people who follow Buddhism and Jainism visit to remember important people and events from long, long ago.

Long, long ago, Vaishali was the capital of a group of people called the Vajjika League. They were like a super-cool club that made decisions together, and it was one of the first places in the world to be run like a republic! This means people had a say in how things were run, which was very special for that time.

Guess what? The famous Buddha gave his last big speech right here in Vaishali! There are even special mounds called stupas that are said to hold his ashes. Plus, there's a tall stone pillar with a lion on top, made by a king named Ashoka over 2,000 years ago. It's still standing strong today!

People from a country called China, who loved to travel and write about what they saw, visited Vaishali hundreds of years ago. They wrote down all the amazing things they found. Later, a clever explorer from England used their writings to figure out that this ancient city was in the same spot as a village called Basarh today.
