Key Facts
Where Are These Special Spots?
Union Territories are like special zones in India that the big boss government in Delhi looks after directly. They aren't quite states, which have their own mini-governments. Think of it like some toys being played with by everyone in the house, while other toys have their own special box! These places are spread out, some are islands far away, and others are right near big cities.
Who Decides What Happens There?
Instead of having their own elected leaders like states do, Union Territories have a special person called a Lieutenant Governor or Administrator. This person is chosen by the President of India, who is like the head coach of the whole country! They make sure everything runs smoothly, following the rules from the central government.
It's like having a principal who is in charge of a few special classrooms.
Why Are They So Special?
Sometimes, these places are made Union Territories because they are super important for the country's safety, or maybe they have a really interesting history. The government wants to make sure these areas are looked after very carefully. Some, like Delhi, are so important they are called National Capital Territories and get to have some of their own rules, but the main government still has the final say!
Meet Some Union Territories!
India has many of these special places! There are the beautiful Andaman and Nicobar Islands, which are like tropical islands far out in the sea. Then there's Chandigarh, a planned city that's very organized.
You also have places like Lakshadweep, which are tiny islands, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. Delhi is a very busy city and the capital, and Puducherry has a unique history. Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir are also special territories now.
