Theodor Herzl

Theodor Herzl was a writer and thinker who lived a long time ago, from 1860 to 1904. He was born in a place called Pest, which is now part of Budapest in Hungary. Theodor was a dreamer!

He loved to write stories and plays. But he also had a very big idea about creating a special place for Jewish people to live safely and happily. He is remembered as a very important person for making this dream a reality.

Theodor Herzl saw that Jewish people in many places were not treated fairly. He thought it would be wonderful if they had their own country, a place where they could be safe and make their own rules. He wrote and spoke about this idea all over the world.
