Tarumanagara

Long, long ago, there was a kingdom called Tarumanagara in a place called Java, which is now part of Indonesia. It was like a big, important village that grew into a kingdom! The people there were called Sundanese. This kingdom was around when the Roman Empire was ending, which is super old! It’s like finding a treasure chest from your great-great-great-great-grandparents.

The most famous king of Tarumanagara was named Purnawarman. He was like a superhero king! He left behind special messages carved into big rocks, called inscriptions. These are the oldest rock messages ever found in Java! They are like ancient storybooks telling us about his kingdom. Some of these rocks are still around today, near cities like Bogor and Jakarta.

These stone messages, or inscriptions, are super cool! There are at least seven of them. They were found in different places, like near Bogor and Jakarta. One famous one is called the Ciaruteun inscription. Imagine finding a secret message from thousands of years ago! These stones help us understand what life was like back then, what the kings did, and how people lived.

Even though Tarumanagara is gone now, it’s still important. It shows us that people in Java had their own kingdoms and wrote their own stories a very, very long time ago. These stone messages are like clues that historians use to learn about the past. They help us understand the history of Indonesia and how different cultures came together.
