Meet the Spartacus League!

The Spartacus League was like a special group of friends who wanted to make Germany a fairer place. They were super brave and believed everyone should have a voice. They got their name from a famous hero named Spartacus, who led a big fight against unfair rulers a super long time ago. This group wanted to be like him and fight for what was right!

When Did They Start Their Big Idea?

This group started way back when your grandparents' grandparents were kids, during a big war called World War I. Some grown-ups in a big political party didn't like how the party was acting during the war, so they decided to form their own group. They first called themselves the 'International Group' and later the 'Spartacus Group' before becoming the 'Spartacus League'.

What Made Them Special?

These friends had a big dream: they wanted Germany to be run by councils of regular people, not just a few powerful leaders. They believed that if everyone worked together and shared ideas, they could make things much better for everyone. They were like a team trying to build a giant, amazing playground for the whole country!

What Happened to Their Dream?

The Spartacus League was super important for a short time. They joined with other groups who wanted big changes, and they became part of a new political party called the Communist Party of Germany. Even though the Spartacus League as its own group stopped, their ideas about fairness and people having power stayed around.
