Southern Syria offensive (2024)

One day, on November 29, 2024, some groups in southern Syria decided to make a big move! They started attacking areas called Daraa and As-Suwayda. These places are near the border with a country called Jordan. It was like a surprise game of tag, but with much bigger consequences. This was the beginning of a big event that changed things quickly.

These groups said they were working together, like a team planning a special mission. Their plan was to move towards a very important city called Damascus. They wanted to make a big push from the south, while other groups were doing something similar from the northwest. It was like two teams trying to reach the same goal from different directions at the same time.

The soldiers who were protecting the city of Daraa decided to leave and go to Damascus to help defend it. But, they didn't really fight back when the other groups took over Daraa. Then, very early in the morning on December 8, 2024, the groups from the south took control of Damascus! Later that same day, other groups from the north arrived too. It was a very fast change!
