Sergey Prokudin-Gorsky

Sergey Prokudin-Gorsky was a super cool scientist and photographer who lived a long, long time ago, from 1863 to 1944. He was like a detective, but instead of solving mysteries, he solved how to take pictures in color! Back then, most photos were black and white, like old cartoons.

Sergey wanted to show the world what Russia looked like in all its vibrant colors, from its sparkling rivers to the bright clothes people wore.
