Sergei Prokofiev was a super talented composer and pianist from Russia who lived a long time ago. He loved making music that sounded exciting and new! He wrote music for ballets, which are like dancing stories, and operas, which are like plays where people sing all the words.
Some of his most famous tunes are from a story called 'Peter and the Wolf,' where a boy outsmarts a big, scary wolf. He also wrote music for 'The Love for Three Oranges' and a ballet called 'Romeo and Juliet' that has a very famous, dramatic dance called 'Dance of the Knights.'

Sergei was born in a place called Sontsovka, in Russia, way back in 1891. When he grew up, he was known for making music that was a little bit wild and very exciting, like a rollercoaster ride! He traveled to different countries, like America and France, sharing his amazing music.
But he always loved his home country, Russia, and eventually moved back. He wrote so much music, including seven symphonies (big musical pieces for an orchestra) and lots of piano music. He even wrote a special piece for cello and orchestra called a 'Symphony-Concerto'!
