The Second Continental Congress

This amazing meeting took place in a city called Philadelphia, in a building that's now super famous called Independence Hall. It was like the main headquarters for the leaders who wanted to make America free. This city was a bustling place, full of people and ideas, and it was the perfect spot for such a big decision to be made.

The leaders gathered here to talk and plan, all working towards a common goal.

This meeting started way back in 1775, right after some important fights happened. The leaders were so brave! They decided to write a special letter, like a big announcement, saying they didn't want to be ruled by the King of England anymore.

This was a HUGE deal! They officially declared America's independence, which means they decided to be their own country. It was a moment that changed everything for the land we live in today.

Lots of smart and brave people came to this meeting. Some of them you might have heard of, like Benjamin Franklin, who was like a super inventor and writer, and John Hancock, who signed his name really big on the Declaration of Independence! These leaders worked together, even when things were tough, to make sure America had a chance to be free.

They were like the first superheroes of the United States.

After deciding to be free, the leaders had to figure out how to run a new country. They made plans for an army to protect everyone and even sent people to talk to other countries to ask for help. They also wrote down the first set of rules for the United States, kind of like a rulebook for how everything should work. It was a lot of work, but they were building something amazing from scratch!
