Sayfo

Sayfo is a word that means 'sword' in an old language called Syriac. It's the name given to a very sad and difficult time in history. During World War I, a long time ago, many Assyrian and Syriac Christian people were hurt and forced to leave their homes. It was like a dark cloud that covered their lives, and many families were separated. This event is also sometimes called the Assyrian genocide.

Before this sad time, these communities lived in beautiful, hilly places in countries like Turkey and Iran. Some of these areas were quite far away and hard to reach. They lived in villages nestled in mountains and valleys. They had their own churches and traditions. But as time went on, things became more dangerous for them, and their peaceful lives were disrupted.

During World War I, which was a huge war happening all over the world, terrible things happened to the Assyrian Christians. Soldiers and other groups attacked their villages, forcing them to run away. It was a scary time, and many people were lost. They tried to defend themselves, but they were often outnumbered. This was a very difficult period for them and their families.

Even though it happened a long time ago, it's important to remember the Sayfo. People who survived and their families have worked hard to share their story.
