Sally Ride

Sally Ride was a super smart lady who loved science and dreamed of going to space. She was born a long, long time ago, in 1951, in a big city called Los Angeles. She studied hard in school, learning about stars and planets. She became an astronaut for NASA, which is like a special club for people who fly rockets!

In 1983, Sally Ride made history! She flew on a giant rocket ship called the Space Shuttle Challenger. She was the very first American woman to travel to space. She was also one of the youngest astronauts ever to go, only 32 years old! That's like being younger than most teachers in your school!

Up in space, Sally was busy! She helped launch satellites, which are like tiny robots that orbit Earth and help us with phones and TV. She even got to use a super cool robotic arm on the shuttle to grab things. She flew in space two times, spending lots of hours floating among the stars.

Sally Ride showed everyone that girls can be astronauts too! She inspired so many people to follow their dreams, even if they seem far away. After her space adventures, she kept working to help others learn about science. She's a true hero who proved that with hard work and courage, anything is possible.
