Key Facts
Meet the Pyramid of Pyongyang!
Have you ever seen a pyramid? The Ryugyong Hotel looks like a giant pyramid made of glass and concrete! It's super tall, reaching 330 meters high, which is taller than 100 school buses stacked up! It stands in a city called Pyongyang, which is the capital of North Korea. This amazing building was supposed to be a fancy hotel for lots of people to visit.
A Long, Long Time to Build!
Construction on this huge hotel started way back in 1987, even before your parents might have been born! But then, something happened, and the builders had to stop. For many years, the pyramid stood empty, without any windows or furniture inside. It was like a giant skeleton waiting to be finished. Finally, after a long break, builders came back and finished the outside in 2011.
What's Inside This Giant?
Even though the outside is finished, the inside of the Ryugyong Hotel is still a bit of a mystery! It was planned to have many floors with hotel rooms, restaurants, and shops. Imagine having a room in a pyramid! Sometimes, they put on amazing light shows on the side of the building using thousands of lights. It looks like a giant screen showing movies and pictures!
