What Happened in Rwanda?

In the country of Rwanda, a terrible thing happened a long time ago. For about 100 days, many people were killed. This was called a genocide. It means a whole group of people were attacked and killed just because of who they were, like their family or where they came from. It was a very sad and scary time for everyone in Rwanda.

Who Was Involved?

There were two main groups of people in Rwanda: the Hutu and the Tutsi. For a long time, they lived together. But some people started to make them feel like they were very different and that one group was bad. Sadly, some Hutu people were told to hurt the Tutsi people. It was like a big fight, but much, much worse, and many innocent people got hurt.

Why Did It Happen?

It's hard to understand why something so awful happened. Some people in power wanted to control everything and get rid of anyone they didn't like. They spread mean ideas and lies to make people angry at each other. This made it easy for them to start the killing. It shows how important it is to be kind and fair to everyone, no matter what.

Remembering and Learning

After the genocide ended, people in Rwanda worked hard to heal and rebuild their country. They built memorials to remember the people who were lost. It's important for us to learn about this sad event so we can understand how bad hate can be. We can promise to always be kind and stand up for others, so nothing like this ever happens again.
