Russian submarine Dmitry Donskoy (TK-208)

The Dmitry Donskoy was a humongous submarine, like a floating city under the sea! It was so big, it was the largest submarine ever built. Think of a school bus – this submarine was much, much longer! It was built to explore the icy waters of the Arctic Ocean, a very cold and special place.

This giant submarine was born in a special place called a shipyard in a town called Severodvinsk. It was built piece by piece, starting in 1976. It took a few years to finish, and then it started its adventures in the navy in 1982. It even got a new name, Dmitry Donskoy, in 2002!

The Dmitry Donskoy had a very important job: to keep its country safe. It carried special missiles that were super powerful. Each missile could carry many warheads, which are like tiny, powerful bombs. It was designed to break through thick ice in the Arctic, which is a really cool superpower for a submarine!

After many years of service, the Dmitry Donskoy got a new mission. It was used to test new, even more powerful missiles. Then, it helped newer submarines get ready for their jobs. Now, it's retired and might become a museum ship, so everyone can see this amazing giant up close!
