This directly impacts their ability to breed successfully, find food, and evade predators.
Projections suggest that continued warming could lead to significant population declines. Ironically, some models predict that the potential decline of their primary predator, the polar bear, due to similar environmental pressures, might temporarily allow ringed seal populations to increase in certain areas, though this does not negate the overarching threat to the species' long-term viability.
