Rifle

A rifle is a special kind of long gun made for hitting targets far away. It's like a super-powered pencil that shoots tiny metal sticks called bullets! Most rifles are held with two hands and rested on your shoulder to keep them steady. They are used by soldiers, police officers, and even people who love shooting sports or hunting for food.

What makes a rifle so accurate? It's all in the barrel! Inside, there are twisty grooves, like a tiny spiral slide. When a bullet zooms down this slide, it spins really fast. This spin is like a gyroscope, making the bullet fly straight and true, even from a long distance. Older guns didn't have this twisty trick and weren't nearly as accurate.

Long, long ago, people used guns called muskets. They were okay, but not very accurate. Then, someone had a brilliant idea to put twisty grooves inside the gun's barrel. This invention, called rifling, made guns much, much better at hitting their targets. This new kind of gun was called a 'rifled gun,' and that's how we got the name 'rifle'!

Rifles aren't just for fighting. They are also used for fun! People use them in shooting sports to see who can hit a target the best. Some people use special air-powered rifles to shoot at targets for practice, or even to help control small pests around farms. It's amazing how this invention has so many different uses!
