Rabban Bar Sauma

Rabban Bar Sauma was a super interesting person who lived a long, long time ago, around the year 1220. He was a monk, which means he lived a simple life and loved to learn. But he wasn't just any monk; he was from China!

He was part of a special church called the Church of the East. Rabban Bar Sauma loved to explore and learn about the world around him, which led him on some incredible adventures.

Rabban Bar Sauma decided to go on a very long journey, like a super-long field trip! He wanted to visit Jerusalem, a very holy place. He traveled with his student, Markos.

Their trip was supposed to be like going from one side of the world to the other. But sometimes, things don't go as planned! There were some problems on the road, so they ended up staying in a city called Baghdad for a long time.

Later, Rabban Bar Sauma was asked to go on another amazing trip. This time, he was like a special messenger for the Mongol rulers. He traveled all the way to Europe to meet with kings and even the Pope, who is like the leader of a big church. He wanted to help them become friends and work together. Imagine talking to so many important people from different countries!
