Prudente de Morais

Prudente de Morais was a very important person in Brazil a long, long time ago. He was like the captain of a big ship, guiding the country! He was a lawyer, which means he knew a lot about rules and laws.

He was also a politician, which means he helped make decisions for everyone. He was the third president of Brazil, and he was special because he was the first one who wasn't a soldier leading the country. He was chosen by the people!

When Prudente de Morais became president, Brazil was going through some tricky times. There were disagreements and even some revolts, like when sailors were unhappy! He had to help everyone get along.

He also had to deal with a big problem called the War of Canudos, where many people were fighting. It was like trying to calm down a playground full of kids arguing! He also made friends with other countries, like signing a paper with Japan to welcome people to Brazil.

Prudente de Morais wasn't always a president. He was born a long time ago, in 1841, in a city called Itu. He studied hard to become a lawyer.

Then, he started helping his city and state with rules and decisions. He was so good that people started to notice him. He even helped write the new rules for Brazil, called the Constitution.

Finally, people voted for him to be their president, which was a huge honor!

As president, Prudente de Morais worked hard to make Brazil a better place. He helped fix problems with other countries. For example, he settled a border argument with Argentina by asking the president of the United States to help decide.

He also made sure Brazil had money by talking to bankers. Even though he faced challenges, he finished his whole job as president, which was a big deal! He showed that a civilian, not just a military leader, could run the country.
