Key Facts
Where the Rivers Meet!
Imagine a city where two rivers, the Ribnica and the Morača, hug each other! That's Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro. It sits near a giant lake called Lake Skadar and isn't too far from the sparkly Adriatic Sea.
The land around Podgorica is super hilly, like a giant's playground, with tall mountains watching over the city. It's a perfect spot for a city to grow because the land is flat and good for farming.
A City with a Secret Name!
Podgorica's name means 'Under the Hill' because it's right at the bottom of Gorica Hill. For a long time, after a big war called World War II, the city was even called Titograd! That was to honor a leader named Josip Broz Tito.
But then, the people decided to bring back the old name, Podgorica, which is much more fun to say! It's like the city changed its outfit and then put its favorite one back on.
Busy Bees and Shiny Bridges!
People in Podgorica work hard! They make things, sell things, and help people with computers. It's like a busy hive! The city also has a super cool airport, so people can fly to and from amazing places. And guess what? Podgorica has a very modern bridge called the Millennium Bridge that looks like a giant white harp! It's a great place to visit and see all the exciting things happening.
Green Spaces and Tall Towers!
Even though it's a city, Podgorica has lots of green! About one-third of the city is made up of parks and gardens, like giant backyards for everyone to enjoy. There's a hill right in the city called Gorica Hill, which is perfect for a walk. You can also find a big university where students learn, and a theater where you can watch fun shows. It's a city that's both busy and beautiful!
