Pipe (fluid conveyance)

A pipe is like a long, hollow tube that helps move liquids or gases from one place to another. Think about when you drink juice through a straw – a straw is like a tiny pipe! We use pipes for so many things, like bringing clean water to our homes to drink and wash, or taking yucky wastewater away. They are super important for keeping our towns and cities working smoothly and keeping us healthy.

People have been using pipes for a very, very long time! The ancient Romans were amazing builders and made pipes out of clay and even lead to carry water to their cities. They built them so well that some of them still work today!

Early pipes were often made from hollowed-out logs or bamboo. It took a lot of clever thinking to figure out how to make these long tubes to move water where people needed it.

Pipes are like the hidden superheroes of our world. You don't often see them, but they do a HUGE job! Without pipes, we wouldn't have clean water to drink, hot water to bathe in, or a way to get rid of our trash water. They help make sure factories can make the things we use every day and that farms can get water to grow food. They are truly essential for modern life!
