Peter M. Johnson

Imagine a person who used to rap at parties and now helps lead a big church! That's Peter M. Johnson. He was born a long, long time ago, on November 29, 1966, in a busy place called Queens, New York City. He's super special because he's the first African-American person to become a 'general authority seventy' in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. That's a very important job!

When Peter was a young teen, he was a rapper! He performed at birthday parties and school dances. Then, when he was 14, he moved to Hawaii. There, he loved playing basketball so much that he got a scholarship to college for it! He played so well that he was even named the Most Valuable Player on his team. Wow!

In Hawaii, Peter met missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He learned about their beliefs and eventually decided to join the church. After college, he even served as a missionary, sharing his faith with others. He studied hard and became an accountant, which means he's really good with numbers!

Peter M. Johnson is an important person because he's a leader in his church and the first African-American to hold such a high position.
