Parkland high school shooting

Imagine a normal school day, but then something very scary happened. On February 14, 2018, at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida, a person who used to go there came back and hurt many students and teachers. It was a very sad and frightening event that made everyone feel unsafe. This happened on Valentine's Day, a day usually for sharing love and kindness.

The person who did this was named Nikolas Cruz. He was 19 years old and had been a student at the school before. He came back with a weapon and caused a lot of harm. Sadly, 17 people lost their lives, and 18 others were hurt. After the shooting, he tried to hide by walking with other students, but police found him soon after. It was a very difficult time for the whole community.

After this happened, people started talking a lot about how to keep schools safe. They wondered if there were ways to stop bad things from happening. Some students who were there started a group to ask for changes to make sure this wouldn't happen again. They wanted to make sure other kids could go to school and feel safe every day.

This event made many people think about rules and how to protect everyone. Leaders in Florida made new rules about guns and decided to have more security at schools.
