Where is Papua?
Papua is a super interesting place in Indonesia, way over on the island of New Guinea. It's like a big hug of land and water! To the east, it says hello to the country of Papua New Guinea.
To the north, it waves at the giant Pacific Ocean. On the west side, there's a huge, beautiful bay called Cenderawasih Bay, which looks like a giant bird's wing! And to the south, it has neighbors called Central Papua and Highland Papua.

A Place That Changed Its Shape!
Papua used to be much, much bigger, covering almost all of Western New Guinea! But over time, parts of it became their own special provinces. Think of it like a big pizza that got sliced into smaller, delicious pieces.
The Papua we know today is the northern part, with its capital city, Jayapura, which is like the main headquarters. It's still a very important and unique part of Indonesia, with its own special rules.
Who Lives in Papua?
About 1 million people call Papua home! That's like filling up a very, very big stadium with people, and then filling up another one! They live in different areas, some near the coast and some on the islands in the bay. People in Papua have their own traditions and ways of life that have been passed down for a long, long time. It's a place with a rich culture, full of stories and unique customs.
What Makes Papua Special?
Papua is known for its stunning natural beauty, especially the Cenderawasih Bay, which is famous for whale sharks! These are the biggest fish in the ocean, and they are super gentle giants.
