Who Are Orangutans?

Orangutans are super cool apes that live in the rainforests of Asia. They have long, shaggy red-brown hair and are known for being very smart. They are one of the biggest tree-dwelling animals in the world! Imagine an ape that spends almost all its time high up in the branches, swinging from tree to tree. That's an orangutan!

Home Sweet Rainforest!

Orangutans only live on two islands in Southeast Asia: Borneo and Sumatra. These islands have huge, steamy rainforests filled with tall trees. They love their homes because there are lots of yummy fruits and leaves to eat, and plenty of branches to swing on. They build cozy nests high up in the trees to sleep in each night.

What's for Lunch?

Orangutans are mostly fruit-eaters, which makes them herbivores! Their favorite foods are ripe figs and lychees, but they also munch on leaves, bark, and sometimes even insects. They use their long arms to reach for the best fruits and their strong hands to hold them. It’s like having a built-in fruit picker!

Orangutan Superpowers!

Orangutans are incredibly strong and can swing through trees using their long arms, which is called brachiation. They are also very gentle and intelligent. Sadly, their homes are disappearing, making them endangered. This means we need to help protect them and their rainforest homes so they can keep swinging!
