Key Facts
Meet Borneo: A Super-Sized Island!
Borneo is HUGE! It's the third-biggest island in the whole world, even bigger than many countries you know. It's so big that it's like having three countries all squished together. This amazing island sits right on the middle line of the Earth, called the equator. That means it's warm there all year round, perfect for growing giant trees and lots of cool plants.
Where Did Borneo Come From?
A super, super long time ago, way before dinosaurs, Borneo was actually connected to the big land of Asia! It was like a giant puzzle piece. But then, the sea levels rose, like a giant bathtub filling up, and Borneo became its own island. This happened after the last big ice age, when all the ice melted. Now, it's surrounded by blue ocean water.
Home to Awesome Creatures!
Borneo is like a treasure chest for nature! It has some of the oldest rainforests on Earth, which are like giant green blankets covering the land. These forests are home to incredible animals you might only see in books, like orangutans with their long arms, and pygmy elephants that are smaller than regular elephants. There are also colorful birds and funny-looking monkeys!
People Have Lived Here Forever!
People have called Borneo home for over 65,000 years! That's longer than anyone can even imagine. Many different groups of people live on Borneo, and they all have their own special languages and traditions. For a long time, people traded things like spices and shiny metals on Borneo, making it a busy place for travelers from far away.
