Nuristan Province

Imagine a land tucked away in the tall mountains of Afghanistan, way up high! Nuristan is in the eastern part of the country, like a secret corner. It's bordered by other provinces and even a country called Pakistan. It's a place with big mountains and deep valleys, where rivers rush down from the snowy peaks. It's a bit like a giant playground made of rocks and trees!

Long, long ago, this place was called 'Kafiristan,' which meant 'Land of the Unbelievers.' But then, something changed! The people here became known as Nuristanis, and their land became 'Nuristan,' meaning 'Land of Light.' It's a place with a very old history, and some people even say their ancestors might have been soldiers with Alexander the Great! Wow!

Nuristan is covered in beautiful forests, like a giant green blanket on the mountains. It's home to so many different plants and animals, more than you might find in other parts of Afghanistan. It even has a special rainy season, like a big hug from the Indian Ocean bringing moisture. Now, the whole area is a protected national park, meaning it's a special place to keep safe and wild!

The people of Nuristan are hard workers! They grow food like yummy fruits and vegetables, and they take care of animals like sheep and goats. Sometimes they also do jobs for others to earn money. It’s a place where people live close to nature and work with the land to make a living. It's a simple life, but full of connection to the earth.
