Where is Northampton County?

Imagine a special spot in the state of Pennsylvania, in the United States! Northampton County is like a puzzle piece in the eastern part of Pennsylvania. It has a big river called the Delaware River on one side, and it’s neighbors with New Jersey.

To the north, it touches the Poconos, which are like big, green hills. To the west, it has another county called Lehigh County, and to the south, it’s next to Bucks County. It’s a busy place with lots of towns and cities!

A River Runs Through It!

One of the coolest things about Northampton County is the Lehigh River. This river is like a long, winding snake, about as long as 175 kilometers, or 109 miles! That’s longer than a super long car ride.

This river flows all the way to the Delaware River. Rivers are super important because they give water to plants and animals, and people have used them for a long, long time to travel and build towns nearby.

Giants of Industry!

Long ago, Northampton County was famous for making HUGE things! There was a company called Atlas Portland Cement that made more cement than anyone else in the world for almost 100 years. Cement is what makes buildings and roads strong.

There was also Bethlehem Steel, which made steel for ships and buildings. Steel is super strong metal. These factories were so big, they were like giant metal monsters that helped build lots of things!

Lots of People Live Here!

Did you know that over 312,000 people call Northampton County home? That’s a lot of people! It’s like filling up a giant stadium with people, over and over again.

The biggest city in the county is called Bethlehem. People here speak English, and they work in different jobs, like making things, helping people, or teaching kids in schools. It’s a place with many families and communities living together.
