Key Facts
Where is This Giant Place?
North Rhine-Westphalia, or NRW for short, is a super big state in the western part of Germany. It's like a giant puzzle piece in Europe! It's not the biggest state in Germany, but it's packed with more people than any other state. Think of a huge playground filled with millions of kids! It has lots of rivers, including the famous Rhine River, which is like a superhighway for boats.
A Land of Many Faces
This state is actually a mix of different places that came together after a big war called World War II. It used to be two separate areas called Westphalia and the northern part of Rhine Province, plus a little place called Lippe. Because these places were separate for a long time, people in different parts of NRW have their own special ways of celebrating and talking, like having different favorite flavors of ice cream!
Super Busy Cities!
NRW has more cities with over 100,000 people than almost anywhere else in Germany! Its capital is Düsseldorf, a very important city. But there are other huge cities too, like Cologne, which has over a million people – that's more people than live in many small countries! Many of these big cities are close together, making a giant urban area that's one of the biggest in all of Europe.
What Do People Do Here?
People in NRW work in all sorts of jobs! It's a very important place for making things and for businesses. They make cars, machines, and lots of other cool stuff. Because it's so busy and has so many people, it's a very important place for Germany's economy. They also have great schools where kids learn all sorts of interesting things to become future scientists, artists, and builders!
