A Special Island Story

The Māori people, who were the first people to live in New Zealand, have a special story about the North Island. They call it 'Te Ika-a-Māui', which means 'the fish of Māui'. They believe a hero named Māui fished it up from the sea! This island is a very important place with a long and fascinating past.
