She even changed her name to Nina Simone so her family wouldn't know she was playing 'cocktail piano'! Soon, people loved her singing so much, it became her main job. She recorded over 40 albums, sharing her special music with everyone.

Nina Simone didn't just sing beautiful songs; she used her voice to speak up for what was right. During a time when things weren't fair for everyone, she became a hero for the Civil Rights Movement. Her songs helped people feel strong and hopeful. She was so passionate about fairness that after a very sad event, she even moved to live in other countries like France, Africa, and the Caribbean.
