MS Augustus (1926)

The MS Augustus was a super-duper big ship built a long, long time ago, in 1926! It was like a floating hotel that could also zoom across the ocean. It was so big that it was the largest ship powered by engines (not steam!) in the whole world when it was made.

Think of it as a giant metal whale that carried people and goods on exciting journeys between Europe and faraway lands like South America and North America.

This amazing ship started its life carrying people across the big, blue ocean. It was one of the fastest and biggest ships on its routes. But then, something surprising happened!

During a big war called World War II, the MS Augustus was changed into a special kind of ship called an aircraft carrier. It was even given new names, Falco and then Sparviero! Sadly, it never got to fly planes in a real fight.

It was later used to block a harbor and finally taken apart.

The MS Augustus was a star because it was the biggest ship in the world that used special engines called diesel engines. It also had four propellers, like giant spinning fans, making it super powerful! It was a true marvel of its time, showing how clever people were at building huge, fast machines.

It helped connect countries and people by making long sea trips possible and exciting for everyone on board.

This ship was a motor ship, which means it had powerful engines that burned fuel to make it move. Unlike older ships that used steam from boiling water, the MS Augustus used diesel engines. These engines were like the ones in big trucks or buses, but much, much bigger and stronger!

Having four propellers also helped it push through the water with lots of force, making it one of the fastest ships of its day.
