The Big Apple's Big Move!

New York City is a super busy place where millions of people live! It's located in the northeastern United States. It's so big, it's like a giant playground with tall buildings and busy streets. Long ago, before cars were common, moving day was a crazy, exciting time when everyone had to pack up their homes and find a new one, all at once!

When Did the Moving Trucks Roll?

For a very long time, from when New York was just a small town until after World War II, May 1st was the BIG moving day! It was like a giant game of musical chairs for houses. People would get ready for weeks, looking for new places to live and making sure their old homes were ready to go. It was a tradition that lasted for hundreds of years!

Why Did Everyone Move Together?

It sounds wild, right? Well, back then, most people rented their homes, and their rental contracts all ended on the same day, May 1st! So, if you wanted to stay, you had to agree on a new rent price. If you didn't, or if you wanted a new place, you had to move out! It was a special day that made the whole city buzz with activity.

A City That Never Stops Moving!

Even though Moving Day isn't a big event anymore, New York City is still a place where people move in and out all the time. It's a city full of dreams and opportunities, and people are always coming to find their place. It's a city that's always changing, just like the people who call it home!
