Key Facts
Meet the Giant's Face!
Mount Mansfield is the tippy-top of Vermont! It’s so tall, it’s like stacking 300 school buses on top of each other. When you look at it from far away, it looks just like a giant human face sleeping. You can see its forehead, nose, and chin. The chin is actually the highest part, which is super funny because usually, a chin is lower than your forehead!
Where Does the Giant Live?
This giant face lives in the northwest part of Vermont, in a place called the Green Mountains. It’s part of a big, beautiful park called Mount Mansfield State Forest. Lots of people love to visit and hike on its trails. In the winter, people even ski down its snowy sides at a place called Stowe Mountain Resort. It's a busy place for fun!
A Face from a Long, Long Time Ago!
Guess what? Mount Mansfield is so old that it has special plants on its very top that have been there since the Ice Age! Imagine plants that lived when mammoths roamed the Earth! These special plants only grow in a few places, and Mount Mansfield has a big patch of them, like a secret garden from the past.
Fun Things to Do on the Giant
You can drive a special road almost all the way to the giant's nose! It’s a bumpy, twisty road that goes up, up, up. From the nose, you can walk along the giant’s face to the chin. It’s a great adventure! People also use the mountain to send TV and radio signals, so you can watch your favorite shows because of the giant!
