Mohammad Zahir Shah

Imagine a prince named Mohammad Zahir Shah, born way back in 1914 in Kabul, Afghanistan. He was born into a royal family, and his dad was the king! When he grew up, he became king himself. He was king for a super long time, longer than many kids' grandparents have been alive! He loved his country and wanted to make it a better place for everyone.

King Zahir Shah had big dreams for Afghanistan! He wanted everyone to go to school, so he helped build lots of new schools for boys and girls. He also wanted people to be healthy, so he worked on building hospitals. He believed that education and health were super important for his country to grow and be strong. He even helped write a new rulebook for the country called a constitution!

One of the most amazing things King Zahir Shah did was try to keep Afghanistan peaceful. He was a calm and thoughtful leader. He wanted his country to be a place where people could live happily without fighting. He worked hard to make sure Afghanistan was a peaceful country, which is a really important job for any leader. He was like a steady hand guiding his nation.

After ruling for 40 amazing years, King Zahir Shah's time as king came to an end in 1973. He was visiting Italy when things changed back home. Instead of going back to be king, he decided to live in Rome for a while. Later in his life, he did return to Afghanistan, not as king, but as a respected elder. He showed that even after being a leader, you can still be a wise and loved person.
