It sits between the north of England and the south of England, and it's also next to Wales. It's a big area, about as big as 1,600,000 football fields put together! It's a place full of towns and cities where lots of people live and work.

When the Midlands Got Busy!

A long, long time ago, this area was a kingdom called Mercia. But then, something super exciting happened called the Industrial Revolution! This is when people invented amazing machines that could make things much faster.

The Midlands became a powerhouse of making things, like pots, pans, and even cars! One part even got a nickname, the 'Black Country,' because all the factories made it look dark with smoke.

People and Their Awesome Stuff!

The people in the Midlands are known for being friendly and hardworking. They speak English, just like in the rest of England. The biggest city here is called Birmingham, and it's HUGE!

It's the second-biggest city in the whole United Kingdom. Other cool cities include Coventry, Leicester, and Nottingham. These places are full of life, with busy streets, fun shops, and lots of places to learn and play.

Making Things and Going to School!

For a long time, the Midlands was famous for making things. People worked in factories making all sorts of goods. Today, people still work in factories, but they also do lots of other jobs, like working in hospitals, schools, and shops. And speaking of schools, kids in the Midlands go to school to learn all sorts of amazing things, from reading and writing to science and art, just like you!
