Where is Leicester?
Imagine a big city in the middle of England, not too far from London! Leicester sits right on the River Soar, which is like a long, winding ribbon of water. It's a busy place with lots of roads and train tracks zooming through it, connecting it to other big cities like Birmingham and Nottingham. It's also close to a special green area called the National Forest, where you can find lots of trees!
A City with a Royal Past!
Leicester has been around for a super, super long time, even before castles were built! Ancient people lived here, and then the Romans came and made it a town called Ratae Corieltauvorum. Later, Vikings and even kings lived here!
King Richard III, who was a real king, spent his last days in Leicester before a big battle. He was even buried there, and his tomb was found again after hundreds of years!
Lots of People and Fun Stuff!
Leicester is a really big city, with hundreds of thousands of people calling it home. That's more people than can fit in a giant stadium! People from all over the world live here, making it a colorful and exciting place. It's also famous for its sports teams, like the Leicester Tigers who play rugby and Leicester City who play football. They've even won awards for being a great sporting city!
