Meet the Giant Mountain!

The Matterhorn is a super tall mountain in the Alps, a big mountain range in Europe. It's like a giant pointy hat that touches the sky! It sits right on the border between two countries, Switzerland and Italy.

This amazing mountain is shaped like a pyramid, with four steep sides that meet at a sharp peak. It's so high, it's one of the tallest mountains in all of Europe! It's often called the 'Mountain of Mountains' because it's so special and famous.

What's it Like Up There?

The top of the Matterhorn is a whopping 4,478 meters (that's 14,692 feet!) above the sea. That's taller than 10 Eiffel Towers stacked on top of each other! The mountain has four faces, like a giant diamond, and each one points to a different direction: north, south, east, and west.

These faces are very steep and drop down to big icy rivers called glaciers. The mountain looks down on two towns: Zermatt in Switzerland and Breuil-Cervinia in Italy.

Adventures and Dangers!

For a long time, people were too scared to climb the Matterhorn because it looked so dangerous. It was one of the last big mountains in the Alps to be climbed! The first successful climb was in 1865.

But sadly, during that first climb, four people fell and didn't make it. Even today, climbing the Matterhorn is very tricky and many people have gotten hurt. It's known as one of the most dangerous mountains in the world for climbers.

Why is it So Famous?

The Matterhorn is like a celebrity mountain! It's probably the most photographed mountain on Earth. People love its unique shape and how it stands out. It's a symbol of the Alps and adventure. Many people visit the towns nearby just to see it, and some brave climbers try to reach the top every year. It's a truly spectacular sight that captures everyone's imagination!
