Meet Marcus Garvey, the Big Thinker!

Imagine a superhero, but instead of a cape, he had powerful words! That was Marcus Garvey. He was born a long, long time ago in a sunny place called Jamaica.

He loved to read and learn, and he grew up to be a very important leader. He believed that Black people, no matter where they lived in the world, should feel proud of who they are and stand tall together. He wanted everyone to know they were special and strong!

His Big Idea: Unity is Superpower!

Marcus Garvey had a HUGE idea: he wanted all Black people, all over the world, to be united like a giant family. He started a special club called the UNIA to help make this happen. He traveled and spoke to so many people, telling them to believe in themselves and to build their own businesses and communities.

He thought it was super important for people to be independent and not rely on others, especially when some people weren't being fair.

Sailing to New Adventures (Almost!)

Marcus Garvey wanted to connect Black people in America with Africa, like a bridge! He even started a shipping company called the Black Star Line. Imagine big ships sailing across the ocean, carrying people and goods! It was a very exciting dream. Sadly, some people didn't like his big plans, and he faced challenges. But his dream of connection and pride lived on!

Why We Remember Marcus Garvey Today

Even though Marcus Garvey lived a long time ago, his message of pride and unity is still super important. He showed people that they had strength within them. He inspired many others to stand up for themselves and to celebrate their heritage. He is remembered as a national hero in Jamaica, and his ideas still make people feel powerful and proud today!
