Manny Shinwell

Imagine a busy bee who loved to help people! That was Manny Shinwell. He was a politician, which means he was like a helper for the country, making big decisions.

He worked for a very long time, even longer than your grandparents have been alive! He was part of a team called the Labour Party, and they wanted to make sure everyone in Britain was looked after. Manny was born a long, long time ago and grew up to be a very important person in British history.

Manny started life in a big family in London. When he was just a little boy, his family moved to a place called Glasgow. He had to leave school when he was only eleven years old, which is much younger than you are now!

But he didn't stop learning. He became a leader for workers and was part of exciting times in Glasgow. He even went to jail for a little while because people were upset about things happening back then.

But he kept going and became a Member of Parliament, which is like being a superhero for a town or area.

One of the most famous things Manny did was when he was in charge of fuel and power. There was a super cold winter, colder than you can imagine, and everyone ran out of coal to keep warm! It was like all the heaters in your house suddenly stopped working.

This made Manny very unpopular for a little while because people were freezing. It shows how important it is to have enough power for everyone, especially when it's cold outside. He later had other big jobs, like being in charge of the army!

Manny Shinwell was a politician for so, so long. He was in the main room where politicians talk, called the House of Commons, for 40 years! That's longer than you've been alive, and longer than your parents have been alive!

Even when he was very old, in his eighties, he kept working. He then moved to another special room called the House of Lords, where he kept helping until he was over 100 years old! He lived to be 101, which is amazing for anyone, especially a busy politician.
