The Mighty Lombards!

Imagine a group of super strong warriors called the Lombards! Their name might sound funny, but it actually means 'long beards'. These people came from a place called Scandinavia, which is very cold and far away. They were known for being brave fighters and loved to wear cool armor. They weren't just warriors, though; they also had their own special ways of living and making things.

The Lombards didn't stay in Scandinavia forever. They went on a huge journey, like a really, really long road trip! They traveled south for many, many years. Eventually, they arrived in a sunny land called Italy. This was a massive change from their old home! They fought with the people already there and ended up taking over a big part of the country, starting their own kingdom.

One of the coolest things about the Lombards was their law. They wrote down their rules, which was pretty advanced for their time! These laws helped them organize their kingdom and make sure everyone knew what to do. They also had a special way of making beautiful jewelry and metalwork. Think of shiny helmets and fancy necklaces – they were great at making those!

Even though the Lombards' kingdom didn't last forever, they left behind a lot of important things. They changed Italy in many ways, and some of their ideas about laws and how to run a country were used by others later on. Places they lived in, like Cividale del Friuli, still have amazing old buildings from their time. They are a fascinating part of history!
