Limpopo River

Imagine a super long ribbon of water! The Limpopo River starts its journey in a country called South Africa. Then, it wiggles its way east, like a snake slithering across the land, all the way to Mozambique. Finally, it spills out into the giant Indian Ocean. It’s like a watery highway connecting different places!

This river is so special that people have given it different names! Long ago, some groups called it 'Vhembe'. Later, explorers from far away saw it and named it 'Rio do Espírito Santo', which means 'River of the Holy Spirit'. Today, we know it best as the Limpopo River, a name that comes from people who settled nearby a long, long time ago.

The Limpopo River is super long! It stretches for about 1,750 kilometers (that's 1,090 miles). To give you an idea, that’s longer than driving from New York City to Miami! It’s the second biggest river in Africa that flows into the Indian Ocean, only the Zambezi River is bigger.

Rivers are like busy cities for animals! Many creatures live in and around the Limpopo. You might find hippos splashing, crocodiles lurking, and lots of different birds flying overhead. The land around the river is also home to amazing animals like elephants, lions, and rhinos, making it a very important place for wildlife.
