The Amazing Lesula Monkey!

Imagine a monkey that was so good at hiding, scientists didn't even know it was there until 2007! That's the Lesula! It lives in a special part of the Congo rainforest called the Lomami Basin. It's like a hidden treasure in the trees. This shy monkey is one of the newest African monkeys to be discovered, making it a real jungle superstar!

The Lesula has some super cool features. Its eyes look a lot like yours, which is pretty unusual for a monkey! But the most amazing thing is its bottom. Adult boy Lesulas have a big, bare patch of skin on their bottoms that is a brilliant, bright blue color! It's so spectacular, it's like they're wearing bright blue shorts. They are about the size of a medium-sized dog.

Lesulas have a special way of saying hello in the morning. They sing a loud, booming song together when the sun comes up! It's called a dawn chorus, and it's one of the things that makes them so unique. Scientists were so excited about finding this new monkey that it was even picked as one of the Top 10 New Species discovered in the whole world!
