Laptev Sea

Imagine a giant, cold bathtub in the Arctic Ocean! That's kind of like the Laptev Sea. It's tucked away north of Siberia, a huge land in Russia. It's bordered by other icy lands and islands. Only in August and September does some of the ice break up, letting you see the dark water underneath. It's a bit like a giant popsicle that only melts a tiny bit in summer.

Brave explorers named Dmitry and Khariton Laptev sailed these icy waters a long, long time ago. They were like Arctic adventurers! Before them, other explorers also visited. They came down big rivers, like the mighty Lena River, which is super long, to reach this cold sea. It's amazing to think about them exploring such a frozen and wild place!
