Who Was General Schleicher?

Kurt von Schleicher was a German general, like a top soldier! He lived a long time ago, when Germany was called the Weimar Republic. He was also a leader, called a Chancellor, for a little while. He was a bit like a chess player, trying to move pieces around to win. But his story had a very unhappy ending.

A Soldier's Journey

Kurt was born into a family where his dad was in the army. So, it made sense he became a soldier too! He started as a young lieutenant and worked his way up. During a big war called World War I, he helped with trains and important army plans. After the war, he helped the army work with the new government.

Playing the Political Game

General Schleicher was very clever. He advised the President and helped pick who would be the leader, the Chancellor. He even tried to get some groups to help the army. He was like a puppet master, trying to control things from behind the scenes. He wanted to make Germany strong again.

A Tragic End

Sadly, things didn't work out well for Kurt von Schleicher. He tried to make deals with other leaders, but they didn't work. He even suggested the President rule like a king for a bit! But he had to step down. Later, he and his wife were sadly killed by a group called the SS. It was a very sad end to his life.
