Hello, Darkness! Meet Night!

Night is when the sun dips below the edge of our planet, Earth. Imagine Earth as a giant spinning ball. When your side is facing the sun, it's daytime. But when it spins away, that side gets dark, and it's nighttime! It's like a giant game of hide-and-seek with the sun.

Why Does Night Happen?

Earth is always spinning, like a merry-go-round. It takes a whole day and night for Earth to spin around just once. This spinning is why we have sunrises and sunsets. As Earth turns, the sun appears to rise in the morning and set in the evening, bringing on the night.

Who Comes Out at Night?

Some animals love the dark! These are called nocturnal animals. They have super-duper eyesight for the dark or really good hearing and smelling. Think of owls with their big eyes or bats that use sound to find their way. Other animals, like us, are diurnal and sleep when it's dark.

Nighttime Wonders

Even though it's dark, the night isn't totally black. You can see the moon, which is like a giant nightlight in the sky. And if you look up, you'll see twinkling stars! Sometimes, there's even a faint glow in the sky called airglow. It's a whole different world after the sun goes down.
