Kittatinny Mountain

Kittatinny Mountain is like a super long, bumpy hill that goes on and on! It's mostly in a place called Sussex County in New Jersey. Think of it as a giant's backbone lying across the land.

This mountain is part of a much bigger family of mountains called the Appalachian Mountains. It's so big, it even crosses into another state, Pennsylvania, where it has a different name. It's a very special part of the landscape!

The very tippy-top of Kittatinny Mountain is called High Point. It's the highest spot in all of New Jersey! It's 1,803 feet tall. That's like stacking 180 school buses on top of each other! It's way taller than a giraffe, which is about 18 feet tall. From up there, you can see for miles and miles, like looking out of an airplane window!

Kittatinny Mountain is a fantastic home for lots of plants and animals. It's covered in trees, and you might see deer or even black bears roaming around. The mountain also helps create cool valleys, like Wallpack Valley. The air is usually fresh and clean up on the mountain. It's a wonderful place for nature to thrive and for people to explore and enjoy the outdoors.

Long, long ago, people called the Lenape lived near this mountain. They even had a special name for it! The mountain has been here for millions of years, watching over the land.
